broken water
I sit by a brook.
Watch my life flow by.
Changing with each look
At a reflected, changing sky.
Light breaks into colors
When water breaks over rocks
As I gaze and wonder
If falling leaves leave marks.
And if trees’ reflections
Become reality
That can’t be erased
From water’s memory
So sailors on an ocean
Are shipwrecked on that tree.
I reflect on your look
That brought me to this brook
And its memory after all these years
That takes from my sea of reality
And turns it into tears
That drop into the brook
To become part of time
Changing with each look
At a reflected pool of sighs.
Memories don’t bring you under,
Reflections tear you asunder
And shipwreck you on misery.
Please on that rolling sea
Place merciful hands on me
And guide me to eternity.
