forever
Lana turned away before she spoke.
Her words came on their own
Without ghosts from her eyes and mouth
That were their chaperones.
“I'll tell you about his letter
That once had torn apart
My home that houses love,
My everlasting heart.
So I no longer write my feelings
For paper exceeds stone
And covers the direction
Of the path that takes me home.”
“Oh love, oh love”, I said,
“What has come to pass?
How long must something be
For it to forever last?”
I turned her face to mine and said,
“Don’t fear to be alone
No matter the path you take
I’ll always be your home.”
She weighed my feelings with her soul
And as ghosts bid, “Adieu”,
Wrote down sealed words and said,
“These are just for you.”
The road was slippery wet that night
And the last thing I ever knew
A broken seal revealed the words,
“My darling, I love you.”
“Oh love, oh love”, she said,
“What has come to pass?
How long must something be
For it to forever last?”
