Go for a walk
Random ticking time
Turns me on a dime.
On a walk.
I start in t’ talk
To the walker behind.
Stick my hand out
Say, “How about
You give me the toll dime.
This walk’s not free
Time t’ pay me.
That’s my rule.”
He says, “I’m no fool.”
So I turn on a dime
Cashless but kind.
(I didn’t even shout
When I stuck my hand out.)
Just another repetitious day
When you’re born that way.
Heading back
Following my tracks
Startin’ t’ hear
Gettin’ near
A soprano bark
I’m thinkin’ dog lark.
It doesn’t smell right
That thought takes flight
Lands in a garbage can.
I’m not a bird man.
Getting’ near
It all comes clear.
Five year old girl
A blur an’ a whirl
Playing fetch
As catch can.
Girl barks
For to start
Man throws a big grassy clod
Girl retrieves it,
As though
That’s not odd.
Again girl barks
For to start.
Man throws grassy clod.
Pattern repeats.
Girl doesn’t need treat
As pattern repeats.
I walk away.
Got nothing t’ say.
I was just born that way.
Bark gets almost dim
I pray for them
And a win-win.
I’m lost in my mind
An’ what I’ve left behind
An’ a heavy fog
An’ a seeing eye dog.
An’ words from my best friend.
He’s not ever to be seen again:
“Only have the wind
To your back
An’ only have
Frontal attacks.”
Comes a strong cruel
Wind in my face.
I bend down
To tie my shoelace.
My shiny shoe reflects
A big finger in the sky
Writing the answer
To the question, Why:
“No matter what
You never give in
That’s the matter
You can’t win.”
I say, “Who says
You can’t win.”
I walk on again
Backwards into the wind.
