hidden costs
I'm readin’ the fine print when you say,
“All the costs are on the table
But if you can’t pay all of them
Then pay what you are able”.
“We’re not here to take all the water from your eyes.
There's times when you need to cry”.
You have a face that makes me take you at face value
And the kind of hands that look like they could strangle.
What can you do with a view like that;
Which are fictions and which are facts?
Which lead to redemption and which to disgrace
Those ice pick hands or that gracious face?
I put my glasses on the table
Any way you look at it, it’s all a gamble.
An angelic face can kiss the devil
Stiletto hands can slice through evil.
Thinking back now that it’s all played out
It’s still hard to say without any doubt
Who it was that received your kiss
And who it was that your hands hit or missed.
One thing I can say without regret,
“If you’re ever sittin’ at a table with that silhouette
Don’t put too much money on your memory’s bet
And don't blink or you'll miss the source of your debt”.
