lonesome way
Well the wilderness carries thorns
On each and every side.
There’s plenty of temptation
And there’s nowhere you can hide.
Scorn is thrust upon you
Like time’s burden that you bear.
You turn to confront your pursuers
But no one is standing there.
There are none so blind as those who cannot see.
My memory, my memory,
Why have you forsaken me?
Hoof beats close in.
Black smoke is everywhere.
Is it only in my head I sin?
Is that where I stare?
Touch me where the garden grows.
Walk through the golden wheat.
Release the arrow from your bow.
Enter the land so sweet.
There are those who stop to touch and kiss
That which they cannot see.
My memory, my memory,
Why have you forsaken me?
Offer up the fruits of life
The tree it is so laden.
My deeds have been so rife.
There must be one safe haven.
But oh the path it does divide
And then divide again.
And on and on and on and on
And in the end divides again.
And in the end you’re forced to take
An end that you cannot see
Brought to you by the good intentions
Of misplaced memory.
Oh memory, my memory,
Why have you forsaken me?
My memory, my memory,
Why have you forsaken me?
