snake walk
I wake up from a bad dream.
There’s an asp crawling in my bed.
I ask my honey if things are as bad as they seem.
Cleopatra is standing there instead.
I ask, "Is this for real?
She says, “About as real as it gets.”
I say, “I need to be healed.”
She says, “ I wouldn’t take that bet.”
And that snake is feeling creepy,
‘Bout as creepy as it gets.
I ain’t feeling the least bit sleepy
As the captain of the guards hands me my last cigarette.
Am I dreaming or is there a catch?
Am I lost or am I found?
The captain can’t find a match.
The firing squad stares at the ground.
I want to go for a walk, far, far away.
Where you can’t hear talk and there’s no need to pray.
I’m ready to go somewhere, got no need for anything to take.
I’ll go anywhere just as long as I don’t have to go with that snake.
Those apples sure look tasty.
Go ahead take one bite.
Think about it, don’t be hasty.
You got the rest of the night.
And I’m trying to look natural
But how natural can you be.
When that creepy feeling is actual
And there’s a snake in my apple tree?
I want to go for a walk, far, far, far away.
