sometimes
Sometimes in my life I fly on ideas
To sobriety’s storied peaks
That send me soaring higher still
To where connections speak
And meanings explode like fireworks
Against mother-of-pearl insights
And I watch spell bound as loose ends match up
In those iridescent lights.
Sometimes I sit and watch words appear
Full size, from a kaleidoscopic mother
Forming new lives with their pattern
Unstoppable, one after the other.
And those lives become reality
And take dominion, though unbidden,
Fired with life’s welcome strife,
Unable to return to where they were hidden.
It’s then that I know that my heart and soul
Have escaped the expanse of my imagination’s whole
And have sailed away sworn to say
Never to where it is that they go.
It’s better that way for revelation’s light
Only contaminates mystery’s delights
And without magic’s power to compel
We’d have lost our fairy princess’s enchanting spell
That brings us to the edge where cosmic winds
Blow away the wreckage of banality’s sin
And tear the pages, preventing one last look,
At the unprincipled “Magic made simple” book.
So touch my hand, touch my heart too
Feel my thoughts and my intentions for you
To slide over your terrain of crystalline water
And lead me to the redemption of what I’m here for.
