thoughts
I’m trying to catch the thoughts in my head.
There’s one now; no, that one’s dead.
I’ll try for that other one instead.
Hope I get it before I go t' bed.
There’s one that seems to be full of life.
Wait a minute; it’s a' holding a knife.
Got to pull back, set the hook.
Holy cow, that one’s a crook.
Millions of thoughts are flying around.
Their ancient history covers the ground.
There’s a flying heart it's got wings.
Love is in the air; I can hear it sing.
Here comes a flock blocking the sun.
None are mine, not a one.
I wonder where they all come from.
It’s not from you or from my youth
Or from unpaid bills at unmanned tollbooths.
There’s one that’s got two faces.
Duplicity seeking embraces.
C’mon it says, “No fair peeking.”
I hope it comes out while I’m sleeping.
There’s one wearing a disguise,
Spoken truth, you’re in for a surprise.
There’s one now clicking into my mind.
I open my mouth and out comes the line.
It sounds great; wish I'd thought of that.
Wow, that sure said what it’s all about.
Here comes one expressing doubt.
I just had to get that one out.
Thought I was right once, a long time ago
But I was wrong; another thought told me so.
I got to get some ideas in my head.
My thought’s balance sheet is written in red.
There’s tons of pigeon holes in there
Stuffed to the gills with empty air.
Seems like ideas can only be
Where they’re allowed to fly free.
