truth

I was on a trail of losses.

Everything I had I’d spent,

Trying to find the kind of truth

That is heaven sent.

I heard voices

Before I saw the tent.

Shouting choices

I didn’t know what they meant.

Well the tent was sticking

To a slippery slope.

Man said truth sticks

To the end of  a slippery rope.

He got enthused

When collection plates rolled.

I got confused

When the resurrection bell tolled.

I couldn’t hear my name

With all that clinking change.

He said, “If you want to hear that thrill,

Put in some dollar bills.

Then from somewhere

Outside my head,

“To know truth

You got to hear what’s not been said.”

And from the land

That time forgot,

“Only flower speaks truth

Is the blue forget-me-not."

Well the lab was in the woods

Away from all the noise.

The science boys were playing

With all their shiny toys.

There was a button you push

To turn the world inside out

Or was it upside down;

I didn’t get all they were talking about.

Man was saying how

He just discovered truth.

Said if you didn’t believe him,

He'd  show you the proof.

He lit a fire and said,

“See, it’s there.”

I said, “I don’t see anything.”

He said, “It just went up into thin air.”

Then from somewhere

Outside my head,

“To know  truth

You got to hear what’s not been said.”

And from the land

That time forgot,

“Only flower speaks truth

Is the blue forget-me-not.”

Well the art institute had every art,

Even some that never got a start.

A lot of models were undressed.

I wasn’t impressed.

Man said, "I found the route

To painting truth.

And though my model is nude,

My painting isn’t lewd."

In an inspiration

Of artistic creation,

He didn’t paint her nose.

He painted her clothes.

I said, “I don’t see anything.”

And then invoked the saints.

When he said, “She's nude,

There was nothing left to paint.”

Then from somewhere

Outside my head,

“To know truth

You got to hear what’s not been said.”

And from the land

That time forgot,

“Only flower speaks truth

Is the blue forget-me-not."

And from the land

That time forgot,

“Only flower speaks truth

Is the blue forget-me-not."
